Safety Guidelines for Rental Mobility Devices

IMPORTANT:

By renting and operating our mobility equipment, you accept all risks and liability. Failure to follow these safety procedures may result in injury, damage, or voiding of any rental protections.

Upon Delivery or Pickup

Ask our team questions — Our staff can walk you through safe use and storage.

While Operating

 General Rules

  • Use on sidewalks, walkways, and pedestrian paths only.

  • DO NOT operate on public streets or roads with vehicle traffic.

  • Always obey pedestrian signals and crosswalk rules.

  • Reduce speed in crowded areas and signal when passing pedestrians (with a horn or verbal cue).

  • Stay alert for cars backing out of parking spots or crossing paths.

  • Avoid distractions: no texting or using phones while operating.

Battery Charging – Sealed Lead Acid

Charge overnight after each day of use.

Do NOT let the battery run completely dead — this can cause permanent damage and may result in additional fees.

Failure to follow proper charging procedures may cause device malfunction and void battery protection.

Battery Charging – Lithium Battery

 Charging:

  • Use the right charger: Always use the charger that came with your device or a reputable replacement recommended by the manufacturer.

  • Avoid overcharging: Unplug devices once fully charged. Overcharging can cause overheating and potential fire hazards.

  • Charge safely: Avoid charging on flammable surfaces like beds or sofas.

  • Charge at room temperature: Do not charge in extreme temperatures.

Storage:

  • Room temperature: Store batteries at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and heat sources.

  • Flammable materials: Store batteries away from anything that can catch fire.

  • Avoid extreme temperatures: Don't charge or store batteries below 32°F (0°C) or above 105°F (40°C).

  • Proper container: When transporting, use a container specifically designed for batteries and follow DOT guidelines.

Terrain Safety

  • Avoid:

Steep inclines or ramps greater than 4-8°.

Uneven sidewalks, gravel, grass, or loose terrain.

Wet, icy, or slippery surfaces.

  • Only approach curbs and ramps straight on and at low speed.

  • Do not exceed weight limits of the device — if unsure, ask us.

Storage & Transport

Always turn off power scooters before storing.

  • If transporting:

  • Fold wheelchairs or scooters properly.

  • Secure devices with straps in your vehicle.

  • Store indoors, away from rain, excessive heat, or freezing temperatures.

  • Do not leave devices in direct sunlight for long periods — this can damage batteries and upholstery.

Wheelchair Folding Safety (Manual Chairs)

How to Safely Unfold a Manual Wheelchair

  1. Place the wheelchair on a flat, stable surface.

  2. Stand in front of the seat (facing the wheelchair).

  3. Grip both seat rails (left and right) and press downward gently. The chair will begin to open.

  4. Continue pressing until the seat is fully expanded and the wheelchair is completely open.

  5. Engage the brakes by locking both wheels before anyone sits down.

⚠️ Caution: On some models, there are pinch points near the seat rails. Keep hands and fingers clear while unfolding to avoid injury.

Wheelchair Folding Safety (Manual Chairs)

How to Fold a Manual Wheelchair

  • Make sure the wheelchair is empty and the brakes are engaged.

  • Stand to one side of the wheelchair.

  • Using both hands, grasp the front and back of the seat upholstery.

  • Lift the seat upward in the center. The wheelchair will fold inward as you do this.

  • Ensure the chair is fully folded and secure before storing or transporting.

If Something Goes Wrong

  • Stop using the device immediately if:

  • You notice strange sounds, power issues, brake failure, or wobbling wheels.

  • The battery isn’t charging properly.

  • Contact our rental team right away — we’ll arrange a replacement or repair if needed.
